Suffolk & Essex Highlights

In this part of East Anglia, we visit the county associated with some of England's most famous painters who were inspired by the villages and coastline.

This holiday lets us visit this particular part of England not normally first on holidaymakers list, but has many attractions to enjoy and savor. The beautiful backdrop of the Suffolk villages have been famously brought to life by the Gainsborough and Constable landscapes. We include a guided tour of its picturesque villages in Constable Country and a visit to Bressingham famous for its gardens, Steam Museum and home to the Dad’s Army appreciation collection, plus a visit to its outstanding coastline.

Day 1

We depart this morning and travel to Essex and our hotel near Colchester, where we arrive in time to settle in before our evening meal.

Day 2

This morning after a leisurely breakfast we travel to Waldringfield where we join our boat for cruise along the calm waters of the River Deben enjoying tea or coffee and biscuits as we travel. After the cruise we stop at the town of Woodbridge for a short break before continuing on the much admired Beth Chatto Gardens. It was once an overgrown wasteland and now the gardens are an inspiration to enjoy.

Day 3

After breakfast today we travel to the village of Lavenham where we enjoy a guide for a walking tour of the village famed for its timber framed tudor buildings. We continue to Flatford home to the 18th century mill famous in the Constable's paintings. We continue to the delightful village of Dedham befroe returning to our hotel.

Day 4

This morning we depart after breakfast to the RHS gardens of Hyde Hall. This is an ecletic, yet fine garden with wonderful panormic views over the county of Essex. Afterwards we travel to the seaside town of Southend on Sea with its traditional feel and home to the longest pier in the world before we return to our hotel.

After breakfast we depart our hotel and make our return journey back to your joining points.

Hotel Details: Five Lakes Resort, Tollesbury D'Arcy, Near Colchester.

This four star hotel is set in 320 acres of Essex countryside with its own golf course and ornamental lake. The hotel's facilities include a Spa and indoor swimming pool.

The bedrooms are all ensuite with television and tea/coffee making facilities.

  • A guided tour of the Constable Country, including the medieval villages of Lavenham, Dedham and Flatford Mill.
