West Somerset Eats & Treats

A new holiday for 2024 sees us staying in the seaside resort of Minehead, which offers stunning countryside to explore.

A new holiday for 2024 sees us staying in the seaside resort of Minehead, which offers stunning countryside to explore. We enjoy a taste of the West Country by visiting Sheppy’s Cider farm, visit the historic village of Dunster and travel on the scenic West Somerset Railway.

Day 1

We join our coach and travel through the English countryside to our hotel in Minehead, with time to settle in before our evening meal.

Day 2

This morning after breakfast we join our coach for an excursion to the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth. We give you time to explore the area and you may wish to take the unique water powered lift and travel the 500 ft between the two villages (extra cost). In the afternoon we rejoin the coach and travel back to Minehead, where there will be some free time to relax in the hotel or explore the town.

Day 3

This morning we make the short journey to Minehead Station where we join the West Somerset Railway, the UK's longest heritage railway. Our one way journey takes us through stunning coast and countryside to Bishops Lydeard. On arrival there may be time to visit its Gauge Museum on platform 1 in the station. Afterwards we travel onto Sheppy's Cider Farm, which has been producing award winning ciders for over 200 years. Here we tuck into a soup and sandwich lunch before taking a guided tour followed by a tasting. After an enjoyable day we rejoin join the coach and travel back to Minehead and our hotel.

Day 4

After a leisurely breakfast we join our coach and begin our journey to the grade 1 listed Cleeve Abbey, a Cistercian abbey in the village of Washford. Despite being attacked over the centuries, the cloister buildings remain remarkably intact. Afterwards we continue our journey to the beautifully preserved medieval village of Dunster. There will be time to purchase lunch before exploring its cobbled streets, the Yarn Market and admire the hilltop Dunster Castle. Later in the afternoon we travel back to our hotel in Minehead.

Day 5

We say farewell to the hotel and Minehead and begin our journey home with a lunch stop en route.

The hotel provides two nights of live evening entertainment.

Hotel Information: Northfield Hotel, Minehead

This traditional three star hotel is set in its own grounds, a short walk from the town centre. Its facilities include a bar, lounge and restaurant, and there is an indoor swimming pool and steam room.

The bedrooms are all en suite with tea/coffee making facilities and are served by a lift.
