A Shipful of Tea & History in Kent

Enjoy a change of scenery exploring the history of the county of Kent.

This tour is for you if you are a history buff and offers restored naval dockyards, tall ships and Kent’s rich maritime and wartime heritage is the theme of this fascinating tour. After tracing 400 years of nautical history at the Historic Dockyard of Chatham we also include the magnificent Cutty Sark ship at Greenwich, plus we visit Chartwell which was Churchill’s family home along with the RAF Biggin Hill Memorial Museum.

Day 1

We travel from your joining point through the English countryside with a lunch break enroute to our hotel located close to Chatham where we arrive in time to settle in before our evening meal.

Day 2

After breakfast we travel the short distance into the Historic Dockyard of Chatham. With its history that spans from the Spanish Armada to the Falklands Crisis the dockyard covers 80 acres with its exhibits spanning 400 years of shipbuilding heritage such as historic warships, lifeboats and interactive galleries. We also take a Victorian Ropery tour to learn the art of rope making through exhibits and demonstrations. After an enjoyable day we join our coach for the journey back to our hotel.

Day 3

This morning we join our coach and travel to the home of time, Greenwich. There will be time to explore the area perhaps visit the Royal Observatory or the Old Naval College before heading to the famous ship, The Cutty Sark. We include the Highlights tour a self-guided tour learning about its life as a Tea Clipper followed by a Cream tea. Afterwards we travel back to our hotel for our evening meal.

Day 4

Today we depart the hotel after breakfast and travel to Chartwell the family home of Sir Winston Churchill from 1922 to 1965 where he loved to paint and entertain. The house remains much as it was so provides a unique insight into one of Britain's leaders. In the afternoon we continue our journey to the Biggin Hill Memorial Museum which incorporates St George's RAF Chapel which was built to preserve the legacy of those who died at the airbase during WWII. A one hour guide tour traces the story of RAF Biggin Hill through stories and possessions of those being based there. We have also included scones with jam & cream plus tea and coffee during our visit.

Day 5

This morning we say goodbye to the hotel and travel back to your joining points with a lunch stop enroute.

Hotel Details: Bridgewood Manor Hotel, Chatham

This four star hotel designed around an inner courtyard is located close to Chatham and Rochester. The hotel offers a Bar and restaurant along with a well-equipped health club including a swimming pool and Sauna.

The bedrooms are all ensuite with bath and shower, hairdryer, television and tea/coffee making facilities.

Please Note: Some facilities at the Health Club cost extra and must be paid directly to the hotel.
