This new short break holiday visits some of the battle sites which took place in Flanders and The Somme between 1914 and 1918.
This new short break holiday visits some of the battle sites which took place in Flanders and The Somme between 1914 and 1918. We are based in the Belgium town of Mouscron close to the French border and a short journey to all the main sites of the First World War.
Important Notice — A UK valid passport is required for this holiday with at least six months remaining on the return date of the holiday.
Day 1
We join our coach early this morning and travel towards Dover and our ferry for the crossing to Calais. On our arrival we drive through France to Belgium and the town of Mouscron in time to settle in before our set evening meal.
Day 2
After a leisurely breakfast we travel to the historic town of Ypres where we meet our guide for a two hour walking tour of the town stopping at the Cloth Hall and the Menin Gate. In the afternoon we travel to the Tyne Cot Cemetery before returning to Ypres with time to wander around the Grote Markt where you can purchase an evening meal. At 8pm there will be the Last Post Ceremony to view before returning to our coach for the journey back to our hotel in Mouscron.
Day 3
Today we enjoy a visit and a drive to the battle area of The Somme. We will visit the areas of the Peronne, Thiepval Memorial and Newfoundland Park, before returning by coach to Mouscron and our hotel.
Day 4
We say farewell to Mouscron and our hotel after breakfast and make our way to Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery and visitor centre which is site of the largest evacuation hospital along the Ypres Salient. Afterwards we travel onto to Calais where cross the Channel by ferry to Dover and then onto to your joining point.

This small modern 4 star hotel is situated in the centre of Mouscron.
Its bedrooms are ensuite with tea/coffee making facilities and are accessed by a lift.
